Assistant Counselor

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Summer Camp Coordinator, the Assistant Counselor will serve as a caregiver for campers. Responsibilities include assisting with planning, coordinating, and carrying out activities for each cabin group and guiding Campers in their personal growth and daily living skills. The major responsibilities of this position include the following but are not limited to:

 

Responsibilities

  • Be a role model – Set a good example for Campers and staff in your attitude and behavior
  • Follow and uphold all policies and procedures of Pathfinder Ranch
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leadership roles
  • Assist Counselors in cabin areas as needed
  • Assist Instructors in program areas as needed
  • Supervise Campers at meals and overnight in cabins
  • Accurately complete program records, logs and reports
  • Ensure the security and safety of all Campers along with camp grounds, facilities, and program equipment associated with the Summer Camp program
  • Create and coordinate daily and weekly program schedules for cabin groups
  • Coordinate with Counselors, Instructors,  Program Assistants, and  Team Leads in program planning
  • Inventory and recommend equipment acquisitions as needed
  • Provide positive public relations on behalf of Pathfinder Ranch and serve as the liaison between the Ranch and client groups
  • Communicate and coordinate with camper parents/guardians
  • Comply with Health and Fire Department regulations, organizational policies and accreditation standards
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements

  • Sincere interest and ability to work with children in the outdoors
  • Exhibit the ability to work well within the Pathfinder Ranch organization and with other employees
  • Must be self-motivated and complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner
  • Previous experience working with children ages 7-17
  • Able to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing)
  • Hold and maintain the following certifications issued by a nationally recognized provider: Adult & Child CPR, First Aid, and AED
  • Must be 17 years of age or older*

*Please note that while we encourage those of 17 years of age to apply, we will not provide on-site housing except for instances of scheduled overnight cabin supervision.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs.
  • Ability to work a varied shift schedule in excess of 10 hours per day
  • Ability to walk several miles per day on steep and uneven terrain in a variety of weather conditions
