Job Description

Under the supervision of the Summer Camp Coordinator and the Recreation Program Coordinator, the Instructor facilitates a variety of camp activities and is responsible not only for the delivery of activity instruction but also the program areas and equipment associated with the activity.  Instructors help design activities so they are safe, fun, and appropriate to the clients’ age and abilities. The major responsibilities of this position include the following but are not limited to:



  • Be a role model – Set a good example for clients and staff in your attitude and behavior
  • Follow and uphold all policies and procedures of Pathfinder Ranch
  • Participate enthusiastically in all program activities, planning and leadership roles
  • Provide coverage for Counselors during meal and evening times as assigned.
  • Encourage clients to participate and try new activities.
  • Accurately complete program records, logs and reports
  • Ensure the security and safety of all clients along with camp grounds, facilities, and program equipment associated with the  Recreation Program
  • Create and coordinate daily and weekly program schedules for client groups
  • Coordinate with Counselors, Instructors, Program Assistants,  Team Leads, Recreation Program Coordinator, and Summer Camp Coordinator in program planning
  • Inventory and recommend equipment acquisitions as needed
  • Provide positive public relations on behalf of Pathfinder Ranch and serve as the liaison between the Ranch and client groups
  • Communicate and coordinate with Camper parents/guardians
  • Comply with Health and Fire Department regulations, organizational policies and accreditation standards
  • Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements

  • Sincere interest and ability to work with children in the outdoors
  • Exhibit the ability to work well within the Pathfinder Ranch organization and with other employees
  • Must be self-motivated and complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner
  • Previous experience working with children ages 7-17
  • Able to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing)
  • Must reside on camp property and be on call during program sessions
  • Hold and maintain the following certifications issued by a nationally recognized provider: Adult & Child CPR, First Aid, and AED; Small Craft Safety Instructor
  • Must be 18 years of age or older


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs.
  • Ability to work a varied shift schedule in excess of 10 hours per day
  • Ability to walk several miles per day on steep and uneven terrain in a variety of weather conditions
